Tường thuật hội thoại phức hợp

Khi tường thuật một cuộc hội thoại thực tế, người nói thường kết hợp câu trần thuật, câu hỏi và câu mệnh lệnh. Để câu văn mượt mà, ta sử dụng các liên từ (and, but, because) và các cụm từ nối.

Ví dụ:

• Trực tiếp: "I am tired. Can we go home?"
• Gián tiếp: He said he was tired and asked if they could go home.

• Trực tiếp: "Don't touch that! It's hot."
• Gián tiếp: She told me not to touch it because it was hot.

Khi một người nói nhiều ý liên tiếp, ta có thể dùng các cụm như added that (nói thêm rằng), went on to say that (tiếp tục nói rằng), hoặc pointed out that (chỉ ra rằng).

Ví dụ:

• Trực tiếp: "The project is late. Also, we need more budget."
• Gián tiếp: He stated that the project was late and added that they needed more budget.

• Trực tiếp: "Where is the file? Send it to me immediately."
• Gián tiếp: The boss asked where the file was and told me to send it to him immediately.
