Phân biệt và áp dụng các liên từ phụ thuộc nâng cao như once, provided that, unless, whereas trong bài thi TOEIC Part 5.
Liên từ chỉ Điều kiện và Thời gian (Condition & Time)
Trong bài thi TOEIC Part 5, mệnh đề phụ thuộc thường bắt đầu bằng các liên từ trang trọng:
- once (một khi/ngay khi):
Once the contract is signed, work will begin. - provided that / providing that (miễn là / với điều kiện là):
We will ship the goods provided that payment is received. - as long as (miễn là):
You can stay as long as you keep quiet.
Liên từ chỉ sự Phủ định điều kiện và Tương phản (Negative Condition & Contrast)
Cần chú ý sự khác biệt giữa các mệnh đề phủ định và đối lập:
- unless (trừ khi = if not):
Unless we speed up, we will miss the target.(Sau 'unless' dùng mệnh đề khẳng định). - whereas / while (trong khi đó - so sánh đối lập):
Sales increased in Asia, whereas European revenues declined. - as though / as if (như thể là):
He talks as though he owned the company.

với điều kiện là, miễn là
“You can leave early provided that you finish your work.”
một khi, ngay khi
“Once the rain stops, we will go out.”
liên từ: trừ khi (if not)
“I will fail unless I study.”
Trong khi đó (dùng để so sánh đối lập)
“He loves loud music, whereas I prefer peace and quiet.”
miễn là
“You can stay here as long as you keep quiet.”
The shipment will arrive on time ___ there are no severe weather delays.
___ the proposal is approved by the board, we can start hiring new staff.
The old model was bulky and slow, ___ the new version is compact and fast.
Listen to the statement and choose the correct conjunction used.
